Protecting Yourself From Sharps
|
I nearly had my first trip to the hospital of 2013 when washing dishes the other day. I wasn't being as careful as I should have been and I accidentally cut my index finger. The accident happened when I was placing the knives in the drawer, after washing and drying them. Luckily, the cut wasn't too deep so I decided against going to get stitches.
Like most people, I was in a hurry and that is usually when most accidents happen. Many healthcare workers are used to working in a fast-pace environment and many things are time sensitive. When retrieving or transporting surgical instruments be sure to do so safely, using a proper retrieval system product. SST systems allow for safe handling and transporting of reusable instruments in compliance with OSHA guidelines. SST's are a three-part autoclavable systems...solid base tray, Steri-Strainer drain basket and cover.
