I remember my neighborhood, growing up in an ordinary suburban street, where houses looked alike, and for the most part, everyone drove the same type of standard midsize car, truck or minivan. The one exception was my friend’s father down the street. Every summer, he would open his garage door and remove the cover from his beautiful 1965 Ford Mustang. It was shiny, bright red and in immaculate condition. His dad would wash and wax it, take it for a spin and immediately return it to its designated spot in the garage. He’d then carefully place the cover back on his car to protect it from dirt, dust and other contaminants. We would only get a glimpse here and there every summer, but when he did take it out, the car was a sight to see.
Sometimes instruments need to be treated the same way as the 1965 Ford Mustang. Once they are reprocessed, they can be easily contaminated by environmental elements. In the Endoscopy department, scopes come to mind because once they are reprocessed, they hang for a certain amount of time. When storing scopes, it's a good idea to cover them with non-linting Scope Sleeves that are made of an absorbent material that also provides a barrier to environmental contaminants. Open on both ends, these sleeves are designed to cover and protect insertion tubes after reprocessing, during transportation and storage.
