This week is dedicated to honoring the professionals around the world who process medical devices. These departments go by different names depending on their region. For instance, in Canada, these professionals are known as Medical Device Reprocessors (MDR), in the United States, as Central Service/Sterile Processing Professionals (CS/SP), and in Europe and elsewhere, as Central Sterile Service Departments (CSSD). I would like to take the time during this digest issue to thank all of the Processing Professionals for their dedication and efforts to make the healthcare industry a better and safer place.
Patient safety in healthcare facilities begins in these departments. Cleaning, disinfection/sterilization and verification is very demanding, especially with increasingly high volumes of procedures performed.
