At the end of each year, I try to go through my closet and donate clothes that I will no longer wear and/or no longer fit. I usually look at each item of clothing and debate with myself if I will ever wear something that I have long forgotten about. I found that from staying at home more often this year meant that I had more clothes that no longer fit than years past. Consequently, my bags of clothes collected to donate became a little more that years past.
Instruments being reprocessed come in all shapes and sizes. One tool created for the efficiency of using multiple sizes is the Adjustable Stringer.
Stringers used in the preparation of instruments for sterilization are usually 2” - 3” in width. Stringers for use in decontam are typically 5” - 6” in width to maximize the openness of the instruments to the spray action of the washer. This has created the need for double inventory of stringers - until now. The Adjustable Stringer widens for more effective cleaning, and can also be adjusted to the optimal width for placement of instruments inside a tray. Available in 3 lengths: 8", 13" and 17".
Adjustable Stringers are just one of many tools available for effective instrument reprocessing. Remember to always follow manufacturer instructions and test your mechanical washers weekly, preferably daily, in compliance with AAMI and AORN guidelines.
