This past weekend I decided to give disc golf a try. For those of you not familiar with the sport, it is played with a flying disc that is thrown at a target that looks like a basket. The rules are similar to golf, the object is to get the frisbee type disc in the basket with the least amount of throws. My friends and I decided to play at Stoney Creek Metro Park, there are 32 holes at this particular park. It takes some practice to get the hang of the throwing control of the disc, but it's worth the experience. It was a lot of fun to get outside on a nice day, get some exercise and enjoy the fresh air.
The one other noticeable difference from golf is that there is no golf cart and a lot of walking up and down hills/valleys are involved. I definitely wasn't used to being on my feet that long and could feel the fatigue in my legs and feet. We walked over 4 miles and 13,000 steps. I definitely recommend wearing comfortable shoes when giving disc golf a try.
Healthcare professionals working in reprocessing departments are no stranger to working on their feet for long hours at a time. Anti-fatigue Mats are great tools to keep in departments in order to help battle fatigue and discomfort from standing long hours. The key is not to only find a comfortable mat, but also mats that are easy to clean and have nice traction on the bottom that won’t slide.
Whether you're outside enjoying activities or at work, it’s important to think about personal protection first and stay comfortable.
