Today is February 1st, which marks the first day of American Heart Month! The month of February was first declared to be American Heart Month
by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964. There is no time like the present for Americans to start thinking about their heart health and to encourage their friends, families and communities to get involved in raising awareness and support for the fight against
heart disease.
Go Red for Women® is an American Heart Association global initiative to end heart disease and stroke in women. Launched in 2004, they have quickly
expanded into a worldwide movement dedicated to removing the barriers women face to achieving good health and wellbeing. Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, killing more women than all forms of cancer combined.
How is American Heart Month Celebrated? Here are ideas of 5 ways to celebrate in
the workplace:
- Host a Quit Smoking Day:
Give away gift cards to employees who quit smoking on a designated day in February
- Give Your Heart Away:
Give away items that are cute and heart-related
- Sweat it Out:
Dedicate one day a week to workout together for all of February
- Wear Red:
Every Friday, have your entire staff wear red
- Spread the Word:
The more you share, the more people will learn about heart disease
No matter your age, it’s important to consider a healthy diet, exercise and supporting an organization in the spirit of American Heart Month.
