New Year, New You!

ISSUE NO. 760

At the end of each year, I try to go through my closet and donate clothes that I will no longer wear or no longer fit. I usually look at each item of clothing and debate with myself on whether it’s something that I would ever wear again or if it’s something I can fit into by summer.

Instruments being reprocessed also come in all shapes and sizes. One tool created for the efficiency of using multiple sizes is the Adjustable Stringer.

Stringers used in the preparation of instruments for sterilization are usually 2” - 3” in width. Stringers for use in decontam are typically 5” - 6” in width to maximize the openness of the instruments to the spray action of the washer. This has created the need for double inventory of stringers - until now. The Adjustable Stringer is available in 3 lengths (8”, 13” and 17”) and can be widened for more effective cleaning. They can also be adjusted to the optimal width for placement of instruments inside a tray.

Adjustable Stringers are just one of many tools available for effective instrument reprocessing. Remember to always follow manufacturer instructions and test your mechanical washers weekly, preferably daily, in compliance with AAMI and AORN guidelines.
