National Surgical Technologists Week has been observed since 1984, when the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) set aside the third full week of September to honor the profession. Each September, this tradition continues as we recognize the important work of surgical technologists across the country. This year’s theme, “Behind the Mask,” highlights the dedication of surgical technologists who play a vital role in both patient safety and surgical efficiency.
Inside the operating room, surgical technologists are the ones ensuring everything is ready to go. From preparing instruments and arranging equipment to assisting surgeons throughout procedures, their skill and focus keep surgeries moving smoothly. Their impact may not always be visible, but it is essential.
